Remote First Aid Skill Set
The HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in Remote or Isolated Site Skill Set equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to respond to emergencies where medical assistance may be delayed.
This skill set includes HLTAID009, HLTAID011 and HLTAID013.
USI – All students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Remote first aid skill set
Course Delivery & Structure
- The Remote First Aid Skill Set is delivered through two days of face-to-face practical training and scenario-based assessments.
- Prior to attending the practical component, students must complete a pre-course multiple-choice knowledge assessment.
This course provides the additional capability needed to manage emergencies in environments where access to medical support is limited or delayed.
NATIONALLYRECOGNISEDTRAINING
Upon successful completion of all course requirements, participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment issued by the Australian Institute of Leadership and Safety (AILS) – RTO 45354 for the Remote First Aid Skill Set, which includes the units below.
This skill set is suitable for individuals who work, travel, supervise, or lead activities in remote or isolated environments.

WHATYOU WILLLEARN
Upon completion of this course, participants will have developed the skills and knowledge to effectively manage first aid situations in remote or isolated sites, including:
- Recognise and respond to a range of first aid emergencies
- Administer CPR to adults, children, and infants
- Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely
- Manage unconscious casualties
- Apply DRSABCD and incident response procedures
- Provide first aid for injuries, medical conditions, and trauma
- Implement remote incident management strategies
- Support prolonged care situations when help is delayed
- Use improvised first aid techniques when resources are limited
- Manage environmental emergencies including heat, cold, bites and stings
- Plan for evacuation, signalling, and remote communication
- Coordinate resources and apply risk management in isolated environments
PROGRAMOFSTUDY
Assessment for the Remote First Aid Skill Set evaluates competency through a combination of online and practical components.
The program contains four core elements:

MINIMUM
Entry Requirements
Foundation Skills
Students should possess:
- Language, literacy, and numeracy skills sufficient to interpret instructions, complete documentation, and communicate in emergency situations.
- General workplace skills to follow procedures, work collaboratively, and adapt to different conditions.
- Physical and cognitive abilities to perform first aid tasks safely and effectively under pressure.
Physical Capability Requirements
To achieve competency, students must be able to perform the required CPR tasks, including:
- At least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer CPR on an adult manikin on the floor.
- At least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a child manikin on the floor.
- At least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an infant manikin, using correct technique on a firm surface.
